TSA Proposes Extensive, Intrusive and Burdensome Large Aircraft Security Regulations Regulations imposing intrusive security obligations on general aviation operators of large aircraft (those over 12,500 lbs MTOW) and other aviation communities includng airportsare being proposed in extensive TSA rulemaking. When submitted to the OMB the TSA the regulatory proposal exceeded 260 pages. Published with only a sixty day comment period these extraordinary regulations seemed well on their way to quick implementation over what is sure to be the objection of most, if not all, operators of these aircraft. The comment period has now been extended to February 27, 2009. The proposed rules are only 63 pages as published using the tiny font in the Federal Register. Those rules can be found here. Operators of business aircraft are likely the most affected group. Their trade organization is the National Business Aircraft Association. They maintain an information page here.
