DHS Inspector General Report On June 17, 2009 the Office of Inspector General, Department of Homeland Security issued a long awaited report on general aviation security.
The Executive Summary states: "We determined that general aviation presents only limited and mostly hypothetical threats to security. We also determined that the steps general aviation airport owners and managers have taken to enhance security are positive and effective." Undertaken at the request of Congress, which was responding to hysterical media reports decrying the alleged lack of GA security, the DHS IG largely vindicates the GA industry's emphatic position that GA poses no credible threat to U.S. security. With a bit of luck someone at TSA will actually read the report and reconsider TSA's uninformed proposals for GA security.
